Gearbox Software Announces New COGS Initiative

Gearbox's solution to the catch-22:

Can't get a job in the industry without experience?

Can't get experience without a job in the industry?

Gearbox believes that the best and brightest game developers of the future are not yet making games.

The COGS program is designed to give future game makers a chance to get their foot in the door.

OVERVIEW:

Gearbox Software is proud to announce a new contractor initiative: the C.O.G.S. program (Contractors Of Gearbox Software). Through the COGS program, Gearbox will be looking for future game developers from the student and mod communities who have proven talent, skills and a passion for game creation and development, but not necessarily professional development experience.

POSITIONS:

COGS contract openings will mainly be in the following areas:

• Level Design - requires experience with current-generation level editors and related tools (Unreal2, Doom3, Source, etc.) as well as general level-design talent
• Art - requires experience with industry-standard 3D modeling, texturing, and animation tools (3DSMax, Maya, Photoshop, Character Studio, etc.) as well as general artistic ability
• Programming - requires experience with C++, preferably in game development, and respect for professional software engineering best practices

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates for the COGS program must be high school graduates, legal US residents, and at least 18 years of age. Gearbox will have a limited number of COGS contracts that will be available - each contract will be filled by the best talent available. Contracts will be awarded based upon various factors - previous mod/project work, portfolio/demo reel/code sample quality, level of enthusiasm, etc.

COGS will be required to have frequent, hands-on interaction with the Gearbox Software developers. So COGS must be located in the proximity of the Gearbox Software offices in Plano, TX for the duration of their contract, and be available during typical business hours.

December 1: Gearbox will post to this website the details of the contracts available, requirements for candidate submissions, and contact info for questions.

December 15: Gearbox will post to this web site the email address and instructions for submission, and begin to accept and revue submissions to the program on a first-come, serve-serve basis.

There will be a one-month turnaround on submissions.
