Didn't see a job for you in our current listings? Not to worry! Even if your position isn't listed here, Gearbox is always hiring exceptional game industry veterans! If you're the best in the industry and have at least 5 years experience working in the games industry, we want to talk to you!
To apply to the Gearbox Team, please send your resume to email@example.com and put 'Top Talent' in the subject line.
We get asked a lot of questions about how to break into the games industry. Here's a few of the more frequently asked questions as well a few things to concider when applying to Gearbox Software.
Check out our job postings and send resume and portfolio to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Do you see several job posting that you might be interested in or skilled at? You don't have to apply for those separately. Apply for all of the jobs you might qualify for in one email. And don't be shy -- tell us what you really enjoy doing or which job listing you think would be the most interesting to you.
Always submit a portfolio or work samples with your application email. And make sure that your website works, is easy to read, and we can actually see your work samples and have the ability to zoom in.
Keep your portfolio current. Remove samples that are questionable or really old. Let us see your best work first.
If we send you a test, make sure you put forth an effort and show us the passion we know you have.
The application process can be lengthy. It's okay to follow up, but please don't call or email every day.
If you are called for an interview be prepared to spend the entire day in an interview. It may not take that long but it's better to be prepared and well rested in case it does.
All job opportunities, including internships, will be posted on this jobs page. If you don't see any internships or COGS positions then we are not currently hiring for those positions.
You may want to consider one of the many schools that now offer degrees in gaming. Here are a few of the local schools where we have found great talent: SMU Guildhall, University of Texas Dallas, Art Institute of Dallas
Look for studios that are offering Internships
Play test for studios (if you are local to the Dallas area, Gearbox is always looking for Play Testers)
Networking through Conferences/seminars, IGDA, LinkedIn, Forums, etc.
In September 2009, Forbes Magazine designated the Dallas-Fort Worth area as the top place to earn a living in the United States. Dallas has a financial advantage for residents with its low cost of living (one of the lowest in the United States) and the state of Texas is one of the few states in the US that does not charge a state income tax. Gearbox Software is located in Plano, TX just 20 miles north of Dallas. Plano is the largest city in Collin County and is one of the largest cities in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. Home to an award-winning school system, outstanding and internationally-recognized Police and Fire Departments, Plano has become a prominent hometown of choice in the Dallas area. Plano is also home to numerous major corporations including JC Penney, Frito-Lay, and Dr. Pepper.
Entertainment abounds in the Dallas area! Home to 4 major sports teams including the Dallas Cowboys (NFL), Dallas Stars (NHL), Dallas Mavericks (NBA), and Texas Rangers (MLB), sports fans will never have trouble finding a great game. Food and nightlife are plentiful, with enough dining and social hotspots to suit any taste in Lower Greenville, the West End, Deep Ellum, Uptown, Addison, and the West Village. Concerts and shows hardly ever pass Dallas by and are hosted in numerous venues like the American Airlines Center, Cowboys Stadium, Nokia Theatre, and The House of Blues. Dallas is also home to a large, thriving arts district - visit the Dallas Museum of Art, the Nasher Sculpture Center, and the AT&T Performing Arts Center for proof! Don't forget the Dallas Zoo and the State Fair of Texas - Dallas has tons of great family-friendly activities!
