IT Administrator

Gearbox’s IT department is looking for an experienced IT Administrator with a solid understanding of corporate networking. Responsibilities will revolve around day to day maintenance, upkeep of infrastructure, and deployment of new servers, appliances, and services. This position will require you to be on call 24/7 for after hour needs and may include some heavy lifting of equipment. Advanced knowledge of a mixed OS environment is a must.
Responsibilities:
- Specify, design, and deploy complex systems and network solutions that support company products in a 24x7 environment
- Design and manage operations automation systems that replace manual tasks
- Maintain and troubleshoot in-house and 3rd party software
- Contribute to the design, implementation and management of systems to ensure high availability and performance of all systems
- Deliver project milestones and tasks assigned by manager on schedule, communicating regularly on your progress
- Support 24X7 production environment, including carrying an on-call mobile device
- Create and maintain high-quality documentation of all relevant specifications, systems, and procedures
- Stay current on system and network security trends and make recommendations to correct deficiencies and improvements to management
- Coordinate with QA and Development teams to support weekly software deployments across multiple environmental tiers
- Communicate effectively with management, co-workers and business partners
Required Skills:
- 5+ years experience with responsibility for installation, maintenance, tuning, security, and high availability of Linux and Windows
- 5+ years experience administering Linux and Windows systems and related software including DNS, NTP, SMTP, syslog, SSH, shell, Ruby and Perl, and Active Directory services
- 5+ years experience supporting 24X7, high availability internet application environments that include web, application and database servers and load balancing systems
- Demonstrated experience managing common open source automation systems such as Puppet, Chef and CFEngine
- Proven success at managing monitoring solutions with open source products such as Nagios, Cacti, Zenoss, or Zabbix
- Familiarity with software development lifecycle, Open Source code repositories (GIT, CVS, SVN, etc), development tools and managed workflow
- Strong command of Linux kernel 2.4 and 2.6 features including compiling, troubleshooting, memory management, tuning, I/O subsystem, hardware and software RAID, and security
- Deployment and administration of FTP services, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Apache, TomCat, nginx
- Experience implementing and maintaining high capacity networks with an emphasis on performance and security
